The Bachelor of Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art (CAIA) is designed to prepare Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with the skills and knowledge to become professional artists. Guided by Indigenous knowledges and values, the degree encourages experimentation with a range of visual mediums and materials that speak to the Indigenous experience within contemporary Australia. A key priority of the CAIA degree is cultural leadership and integrity, where students will develop a comprehensive understanding of cultural ethics and protocols to navigate their creative practice and the contemporary arts sector. The foundation of your studies will be based on research into your own family history and traditions, developing an understanding of artistic practices, histories, and contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art. You will continue the integration of your family research with studio elective options: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, jewellery and small objects, installation and design. In your final year, you’ll continue to expand your creative research and develop a body of work, which will be presented at the Queensland College of Art and Design Graduate Exhibition.
