This course allows Indigenous people in remote, isolated and regional Queensland communities to undertake a Bachelor of Education (Primary). The course examines learners and learning theories, curriculum studies and approaches to teaching and assessment. Professional experience involves practical work in schools and a variety of educational settings. Teacher coordinators at RATEP centres support students who study using web and print-based materials and interactive communication technologies. Students are expected to attend on-campus and professional experience activities throughout the course. This course is a community-based teacher education program. This course is nationally accredited through the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) in association with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT). A Queensland Working with Children Card (Blue Card) is required; refer to institution. All students must meet the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE) standard prior to their final placement and Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment (GTPA). Refer to Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students. Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the minimum English language requirements; refer to institution.
