UniSQ’s Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science will prepare you for a dynamic career as a ‘healthcare detective’. Learn foundational, advanced and innovative medical science skills that are critical in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and maintenance of human health and disease through the analysis of human samples (such as blood, urine etc). Gain real-world experience by undertaking 80 days of hands-on clinical experience in a range of medical laboratories. The program is accredited by Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists meaning that graduates are workplace ready to commence an exciting career in haematology, molecular diagnostics, clinical biochemistry, transfusion science, infectious disease, anatomical pathology and more. External students must attend residential schools at the Toowoomba campus.
Students must satisfy the requirements of the University of Southern Queensland and Queensland Health for clinical placement. These include evidence of immunity to notifiable and contagious diseases, Queensland Health student checklist and placement, privacy and consent deeds, and a UniSQ Student Clinical Placement Policy Declaration. All students must complete 80 days of clinical experience in Australia.

UniSQ is seeking accreditation with the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS) for the redeveloped Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science . Graduates are also eligible to apply for membership the Australian Society for Microbiology, Australasian Association of Clinical Biochemists, Australian Society for Medical Research and Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
