The Bachelor of Midwifery (Graduate Entry) provides the opportunity for bachelor-qualified, currently practising registered nurses and registered paramedics to qualify with a Bachelor of Midwifery. Students acquire the skills and knowledge to manage normal pregnancy and childbirth and provide effective postnatal, maternal and newborn care in any maternity setting. They will learn how to provide safe and reliable care that meets the individual psychological, emotional, physical, social and spiritual needs of women and their families. Students will undertake a variety of clinical units throughout the course in maternity hospitals and community facilities. Graduates can apply for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).

Australian Catholic University
Full-time students who are Registered Nurses have the opportunity to apply for a paid clinical placement with the Mater Mothers’ Hospital. Interviews for these positions are held late January. Paid clinical placement positions are limited and are conditional on successful completion of an interview. Contact the ACU Course Administrator for more information.

A compulsory two-week intensive, scheduled for early February prior to commencement of semester 1 classes, is a curriculum requirement for this course. Students must attend the full two weeks of the intensive. For this reason, no offers will be made after the main offer round in January 2025. Students undertake a minimum of 960 hours of professional experience and a minimum of 10 Continuity of Care Experiences. Before students can begin professional experience for this course, students should review the mandatory State or Territory legal and industry policy requirements. Employment requirements; Previous registered nurse qualification; Prior study
Students must hold a Bachelor of Nursing, with a GPA equivalent to an ACU GPA of at least 4.0, and be a registered nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) with a minimum of one year of post-registration clinical practice; or hold a Bachelor of Paramedicine, with a GPA equivalent to an ACU GPA of at least 4.0, and be a registered paramedic with a minimum of one year of field experience.
To enrol in this program, bachelor students must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least 6 years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between grades 7 and 12. This education must have been completed in one of the following countries; Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America.
