Students gain the communication, legal, ethical, management, and research skills required for modern pharmacy practice in hospitals, the community, industry, research, or educational settings. Subjects are integrated to facilitate greater clinical understanding and cover chemistry and biochemistry, drug and dosage form design, anatomy and physiology, disease states, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, therapeutics, public health and health promotion, and rural and remote practice. The program is accredited with conditions by the Australian Pharmacy Council. Graduates will be eligible to apply for professional registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Levels 1 and 2 can be completed part-time however levels 3 and 4 must be competed full-time.
Professional honours (full-time only); research honours (full-time only). Students must achieve a minimum GPA of 5.5 across levels one and two to be offered a position in the research honours major.
A 600-hour placement program requires students to undertake experiential learning in both hospital and community practice, with a period in a rural area. Overseas placement opportunities and multi-disciplinary placement experiences are also available. Prior to taking professional placements, students must provide evidence of immunity to hepatitis B, MMR, varicellla, and pertussis, and current Provide First Aid and CPR certificates. A Suitability Card is required and an Australian Federal Police check may be required; refer to institution. Students must complete all professional experience placement requirements by the prescribed deadlines and maintain currency of these requirements in order to stay admitted in the course.
