This dual degree is for lawyers who need to be highly conversant with modern science and its applications, and for scientists who need to be experts in law. Students develop professional, clinical and legal analysis skills including traditional and modern legal research methods, legal writing, advocacy and alternative dispute resolution. They gain the knowledge to become a patent lawyer, working in areas related to environmental impact and litigation, the law and medicine, and maritime law. Graduates working in the science field have an understanding of the legal complexities involved in commercialisation and intellectual property protection of scientific discoveries. During their science studies students will be exposed to one of the broadest ranges of science disciplines in Australia and to the latest research and new knowledge created across these disciplines.
